Ascension Parish Sheriff Jeff Wiley reports the arrest of 38-year-old Dondrick Caine following an investigation into human trafficking and drug charges Tuesday night.

On Tuesday, March 28, narcotics detectives began an undercover operation by reaching potential prostitutes through a backpage.com website and arranging a meeting time with them.

According to Sheriff Wiley, some people advertise their services under the disguise of an escort on this website.

Detectives agreed to meet up with 30-year-old Ashley Shipp at an undisclosed location in Gonzales. When detectives arrived at the location they observed Caine drop off Shipp to meet with detectives. Shipp was then issued a summons for prostitution and detectives then followed Caine and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle.

When detectives stopped Caine, they located a quantity of methamphetamine, heroin, cocaine, crack, ecstasy, and a digital scale in plain view. Detectives also seized $7,529 in cash from Caine.

The approximate street value of the drugs seized is $20,000, added Sheriff Wiley.

As the investigation continued, Shipp advised detectives that Caine exploited her for sex and continuously drugged her for over a year.

Dondrick Caine, 38, of 3331 Fort Meyers Drive, Baton Rouge, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute heroin, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession with intent to distribute ecstasy, possession of drug paraphernalia, human trafficking, and parole violation.

Caine has an extensive criminal history with 23 arrests with charges stemming from armed robbery, illegal possession of stolen things, simple robbery, and multiple drug charges.

Ashley Shipp, 30, of 84577 Jim Talley Road, Bogalusa, was issued a summons for prostitution.

Caine was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail where no bond has been set yet.
