Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a convenient store, located on Highway 22 on Tuesday morning, shortly after 7 a.m. in reference to shots being fired in the parking lot.
According to Sheriff Bobby Webre, deputies and detectives responded to the scene and learned that 37- year-old John Wesley Harris of French Settlement fired five shots from his firearm at 24-year-old Reginal Miles Jr. of Gonzales after an argument ensued over parking at the store.
As the investigation continued, it was learned that an unrelated vehicle was struck by the gunshots and no one was injured.
Miles fled the scene and detectives executed a search warrant on Miles’ vehicle and located a large quantity of Xanax, a handgun, and drug paraphernalia.
Harris, of French Settlement, was charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, two counts aggravated criminal damage, and disturbing the peace.
Reginal Miles, of Gonzales, was charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, possession of CDS schedule IV with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm while in possession of schedule IV CDS, disturbing the peace, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Both were booked into the Ascension Parish Jail awaiting bond.
