APSO SEARCHING FOR 38-YEAR-OLD BATON ROUGE MAN WANTED FOR ARMED ROBBERY – 10/14/2016 10:54 AM

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office is looking for a Baton Rouge man who entered the Advanced Auto Parts store on Highway 44 in Gonzales shortly before 9 p.m. Thursday night and robbed the store at gunpoint.

According to Chief Deputy Bobby Webre, deputies learned that a male, later identified as, 38-year-old Derick Shelbia, entered the store and robbed the store at gunpoint and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.

A short while later, deputies’ located Shelbia traveling at a high rate of speed and began to follow the vehicle through several streets. With the assistance of the Gonzales Police Department and Louisiana State Police, the vehicle was stopped on S. Marchand Road in Gonzales and Shelbia fled on foot.

Deputies began searching the area for Shelbia with the assistance of Baton Rouge Police K-9 unit and air support unit but did not locate him.

Derick Shelbia, 38, of 3721 Charles Street, Baton Rouge, is wanted for armed robbery, aggravated flight from officer, and possession of firearm by convicted felon.

Shelbia has an extensive criminal history dating back to 1998 with numerous drug charges, burglary, and armed robbery charges.
