On July 9, the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to United Community Bank (UCB) in reference to a forgery complaint.
According to Sheriff Jeff Wiley, an investigation revealed that a white male suspect was fraudulently cashing checks using a fake identity. Three different checks were cashed at three different UCB branches located in Prairieville, Gonzales, and LaPlace.
The names used to cash the checks were Harold Carr, Peter Cumbest, and John Smith all using different address in Nashville, Tennessee. The check that was cashed at the Prairieville branch was in the amount of $778.57 and the check that was cashed at the Gonzales branch was $778.27 for a total of $1,556.84.
