Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office is warning citizens to be aware of a scam involving perpetrators posing as employees from an electric company.

According to Chief Deputy Bobby Webre, deputies have received at least two reports of three Hispanic men approaching area residents and representing themselves as employees of an electric utility company. They ask to enter your residence advising they need to inspect your residence for upcoming work.

The perpetrators will attempt to distract the homeowners while another perpetrator enters the residence and steals items or money from the victim.

The suspects appear to be driving a white pickup truck, added Chief Webre.

“We urge citizens to verify a worker’s credentials with any company before allowing them inside your residence,” said Chief Webre. If they’re unable to be verified, dial 911 immediately.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office at 225-621-4636 or by texting 847411 to our anonymous tip line from any cellular device or Greater Baton Rouge Crime Stoppers at 225-344-STOP (7868). To be eligible for a cash reward, you must contact Crime Stoppers immediately.
