Kevin Wald, a former deputy with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, was arrested on Thursday,

December 8, for three counts of malfeasance in office and three counts of introduction to contraband to/from a penal institution.

According to Sheriff Jeff Wiley, an investigation began on Wednesday, November 30 after investigators received an anonymous tip that Wald allegedly smuggled contraband, specifically cell phones, into the Ascension Parish Jail on at least two occasions.

Wald was employed by the sheriff’s office as a corrections officer in 2007 and most recently worked in the Ascension Parish Jail as a corrections supervisor. He was immediately terminated on Thursday afternoon.

“The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office understands the community we serve deserves transparency and accountability, said Sheriff Wiley. “While further details are not readily available due to the case still being under investigation, I believe strongly that the community deserves to know when a member of this agency has been charged with a crime,” said Sheriff Wiley.

Wald is currently incarcerated in the Ascension Parish Jail where he is awaiting bond.
