HOUSE PARTY ENDS WITH ONE MAN DEAD; SUSPECT IN CUSTODY – 6/24/2017 8:38 AM

Ascension Parish Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence on Superior Wood Avenue in Gonzales shortly after 1 a.m., Saturday, June 24 in reference to a shooting, according to Lt. Col. Ward Webb.

Upon deputies arrival they located a victim, later identified as 25-year-old Jerrod Brown of Thibodaux, suffering from several gunshot wounds. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

As the investigation continued, detectives learned that a large party had occurred at the Superior Wood Avenue residence where most of the attendees arrived by a party bus from Lafourche, Terrebonne, and Assumption Parish. It was learned that the victim got in a verbal altercation with a female at the residence and the female’s brother who was also in attendance at the party, brandished two weapons and began firing at the victim.

The suspect was identified as 19-year-old Joshua Harris of Thibodaux. Harris fled the scene but was arrested shortly before 8 a.m. at a residence in Thibodaux by the Thibodaux Police Department.

Harris will be transported to the Ascension Parish Jail and charged with second-degree murder, illegal discharge of a weapon, and possession of a firearm by convicted felon.

Harris has a lengthy criminal history with charges stemming from attempted second-degree murder, obscenity, armed robbery, aggravated second-degree battery, and simple robbery. Harris is currently on probation until July 2021.

More charges may be pending as this case is still under investigation
