One dead after fatal stabbing in Gonzales
Ascension Parish Sheriff Jeff Wiley reports that shortly before 4 p.m. Saturday evening deputies were dispatched to Cobb’s Trailer Park on Roddy Road in reference to a victim, later identified as Todd Toups Jr., 18, being stabbed and later succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital.
Deputies identified the suspect as a 16-year-old juvenile male from Baton Rouge who attended Woodlawn High School. It was also learned that the juvenile was a former student of St. Amant High School and had recently transferred schools.
As the investigation continued it was learned that Toups, a student at St. Amant High School, stopped by the residence to visit with his friend, whom he planned on attending St. Amant Homecoming dance with later this evening.
While at the residence, the 16-year-old juvenile was also there visiting a friend, added Sheriff Wiley.
An argument ensued between Toups and the 16-year-old juvenile which led to Toups being stabbed.
Toups, in critical condition, was transported to a Baton Rouge hospital where he died, added Sheriff Wiley.
The juvenile was charged with second-degree murder and was transported to Assumption Youth Detention Center with no bond.
