COL Cody Melancon began his career at the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office in 1995 and has served in the Communications and Patrol Divisions, as well as the criminal warrants and community outreach units. He is currently a Deputy Chief of Special Operations and the commander of the hazardous materials team. The Communications Division, Community Outreach and Information Technology Units also fall under his command. Additionally, he manages all Capital Outlay, facility maintenance, and construction related activities.  

COL Melancon graduated from the LSU Basic Training Academy and the FBI National Academy. He is also a graduate of the Leadership Ascension Program sponsored by the Ascension Chamber of Commerce. He completed the Command and Control of Incident Operations certification program at the National Fire Academy in Emmetsburg, Maryland and the Advanced Tactical Leadership Firefighting Training, Pipeline, and Industrial Fire Emergencies Training at Texas Engineering Extension Service (A member of The Texas A&M University System). He holds numerous certifications, is an instructor through the FBI Instructor Development Course, serves as a board member for The Louisiana Chapter of the FBI National Academy Associates, and for the Ascension Chamber of Commerce where he serves as chairman of the Government and Community Development committee.  

COL Melancon grew up and lives in Prairieville with his wife, Sabrina, and their two daughters, Brianna, and Kaley. They attend St John the Evangelist Catholic Church, where he serves on the fair and auction committees along with serving the ACTS retreat as a team member.
