The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office is warning citizens about a telephone scam involving a man calling citizens in the community soliciting funds and posing as a well known pastor in Ascension Parish.

According to Sheriff Bobby Webre, in early February the Financial Crimes Unit began investigating reports of phone calls being made in which the caller would identify themselves as a pastor asking for a short term loan and meet up with the victim to retrieve the funds.

As the investigation continued, it was learned that two males and a female were involved in the scam. One of the males has been identified as 53-year-old Kelvin Scott of Baton Rouge who is approximately 5”11’ and weights around 175-200 pounds.

The female suspect is described as an African-American woman with gold teeth, curly hair, and possibly in her forties.

Anyone who may have information on this case is urged to contact the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office at 225-621-4636 or by texting 847411 to our anonymous tip line from any cellular device or Greater Baton Rouge Crime Stoppers at 225-344-STOP (7868).
