A 38-year-old St. Amant man was arrested Wednesday after detectives received information that he made inappropriate sexual advances towards a 15-year-old female, according to Major Kevin Hanna.

Troy Johnson was arrested Wednesday afternoon on one count of indecent behavior with a juvenile.

Major Kevin Hanna said the mother of the 15-year-old girl notified deputies that her daughter had been touched inappropriately by Johnson, who had been living in the home with the victim and her mother.

The mother of the victim also added that Johnson asked her daughter if she wanted to have sex with him on several different occasions over the past few months.

As the investigation continued, detectives revealed that Johnson is currently a Tier II Sex Offender and is up to date and in compliance with his annual registration with the sheriff’s office. A Tier II Sex Offender is classified as a sex offense against a victim who is a minor and will have a 25-year registration period conducted semi-annually.

Johnson has been arrested six times on charges stemming from forcible rape, carnal knowledge of a juvenile, and domestic abuse battery charges dating back to March 1997. Johnson served prison time and upon his release began registering as a sex offender in August 2006. He was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail on Wednesday afternoon, January 5, where no bond has been set yet.
