Lt. Col. Cody Melancon began his career at the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office in 1995 as a 911 Dispatcher and also served in the uniform patrol and warrants divisions. He is currently a Deputy Chief of Special Operations and the Commander of the Hazardous Materials Team. In these duties he oversees the Communications Division, Community Outreach and Information Technology Units. In addition, he serves as the project manager for all construction related activities within the department and is a team leader for the Mobile Field Force Unit.

Lt. Col. Melancon is a graduate of the LSU Basic Training Academy and the prestigious FBI National Academy. He is also a graduate of the Leadership Ascension Program sponsored by the Ascension Chamber of Commerce. He completed the Command and Control of Incident Operations certification program at the National Fire Academy in Emmetsburg, Maryland and the Advanced Tactical Leadership Firefighting Training and Corporate Fire School at Texas Engineering Extension Service (A member of The Texas A&M University System). He holds numerous certifications and is an instructor through the F.B.I. Instructor Development Course.

Lt. Col. Melancon grew up in Prairieville and now resides in Dutchtown with his wife, Sabrina, and their two daughters, Brianna and Kaley. He and his family attend St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church where he is a part of ACTS and serves on the church fair committee and auction committee.
