TWO ARRESTED IN HOME INVASION – 2/9/2016 10:02 AM

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of two 18-year-old men in connection with the January 13 home invasion on Old Perkins Place Avenue in Prairieville. Deiondre Brock and Daryl Mitchell Jr., were arrested on February 5, and charged with Aggravated Burglary, Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Battery and Theft of a Firearm. Both are being held in the Ascension Parish Jail where no bond has been set yet.

On January 13, the homeowner, Dana Cowart told Ascension Parish Sheriff’s deputies that she was leaving for work shortly after 7:30 a.m. when two men met her outside her house and forced her back inside. Both men were wearing bandanas and armed with handguns, the homeowner was subsequently struck in the face and forced to the floor while they searched the house.

As the investigation unfolded, it was revealed that this home was specifically targeted by the assailants and a undisclosed amount of drugs and cash was stolen from a safe located in the home. One of the assailants Daryl Mitchell Jr., through his close relationship with the homeowners daughter Tayler Cowart was keenly aware of the location and contents in the safe.

On February 5, Deiondre Brock, was questioned and confessed to his participation in the burglary. Daryl Mitchell Jr., of 16082 Feliciana Ave., Prairieville, was also arrested on February 5.

A third suspect that entered the home has not yet been identified but detectives feel that the investigation is proceeding in a direction that will soon reveal the identity of the third suspect.
