Major Kevin Hanna began his career with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office as a patrolman in March of 1984. In 1988 he was transferred into the Criminal Investigations Division as a Detective. He was subsequently promoted to the rank of Detective Sergeant in 1993 and Detective Lieutenant in 1999. In July of 2004 he was promoted to the rank of Captain and placed in charge of Criminal Investigations, Juvenile, Narcotics and Evidence divisions. In December of 2011, Hanna was promoted to his current position as Major of Criminal Operations. In this capacity Major Hanna continues to oversee all divisions previously assigned to him as well as Court Security, Investigative Support Division, Warrants Division, and the East Side business office.
Major Hanna was also a 14 year member of the Department’s Crisis Response Team (SWAT). In 2002, he was named Deputy of the Year by the Knights of Columbus and Law Enforcement Officer of the Year for the Middle District of Louisiana. He is a 2005 graduate of Louisiana State University’s Command College and a 2007 graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.
Major Hanna is a lifelong resident of Ascension Parish, and is married to Bridget Morris Hanna and they have four children, Bryce, Jordan, Brock and Heather, and three grandchildren.
